Director Srinath Rajendran posted on his Facebook page that the film Kurup with Dulquer Salmaan in the lead, is going on the floor. He wrote, “Grateful to the almighty for this day, on which we announce the good news that Kurup goes on floors from today. We took around 5 years of our sweet time working on this epic and I, personally, thank Dulquer Salmaan for being with us throughout this journey. Details regarding the crew, cast and other details will be announced soon.”

The film is based on the life of murder-accused Sukumara Kurup and Dulquer plays the title role in it. The director also posted a fan-made poster of the film saying that he couldn’t find a better occasion than this to do so.

It may be noted here that Srinath Rajendran and Dulquer had teamed up for Second Show seven years ago and this film turned out to be one of the biggest hits in their career. The film was also Dulquer’s first.

Kurup is scripted by Daniell Sayooj Nair and KS Aravind while Jithin K Jose has penned the story. Based on real-life incidents around one of Kerala's most wanted criminals—Sukumara Kurup—will see Dulquer Salmaan in the titular role. Accused of murdering a film representative named Chacko, Sukumara Kurup had faked his own death. Apparently his plan was to murder Chacko and pass it off as his own death to claim a large amount of insurance. It was a sensational case; more so because the police could not arrest the main accused who has been on the run since, while co-accused driver Ponnappan and brother-in-law Bhaskar Pillai were sentenced to life-term imprisonment.

While Kurup is one important project in his kitty, Dulquer Salmaan also has signed a new film with director Mahesh Narayanan of Take Off fame.
