Dulquer Salmaan and Sonam Kapoor’s ‘The Zoya Factor’ gets new release date

The film was scheduled to release on June 14, but the makers have decided to push its release to avoid clashing with the upcoming ICC World Cup.

A new release date for the Dulquer Salmaan and Sonam Kapoor starrer The Zoya Factor has been announced. The film was initially scheduled to release on April 5, later it was announced that the date was pushed to June 14. But now the makers have decided to postpone its release again to avoid clashing with the upcoming ICC World Cup, which begins from May 30. The film will now hit the screens on September 20.

On Thursday, Sonam Kapoor took to Instagram to announce the release date. She also shared the film’s new poster in which she and Dulquer are looking at each other, twinning in denim jackets, with a cricket stadium in the backdrop. “We’re back after the strategic timeout. Catch The Zoya Factor in cinemas on September 20, 2019. Starring Dulquer, directed by Abhishek Sharma,” she captioned the image.

Earlier, sources told Mid-Day, “One of the reasons the film is being postponed is because there is post-production work left. But the driving factor here is the timing. While the makers earlier thought it would be wise to release the film amidst the World Cup fever, they now feel that it may not be the most lucrative period in terms of box-office business. So, they are eyeing an early September release. The final date is yet to be zeroed in. The trailer will be launched by July-end.”

This rom-com will be helmed by Abhishek Sharma, who earlier directed Tere Bin Laden. The film is based on the novel of the same title penned by Anuja Chauhan. It is about an advertising agency executive, Zoya Singh Solanki, getting to meet the Indian cricket team and turning out to be their lucky mascot which eventually helps the team lift the Cricket World Cup in 2010. Sonam Kapoor plays the titular role and Dulquer Salmaan plays Nikhil Khoda, the captain of the Indian cricket team. The actors have been paired for the first time.

The film, which also stars Sanjay Kapoor, Shoaib Ahmed and R Bhakti Klein in supporting roles, is bankrolled by Fox Star Studios and Adlabs.
