Due to drug addiction, more students in Kerala are indulging in chain-snatching, says officer

While explaining how drug abuse is increasing among students, Kerala Excise Commissioner Rishiraj Singh said on Wednesday that half of the motorcycle-borne chain snatchers in the state were students addicted to drugs.

Inaugurating an awareness campaign at Maharaja’s College in Kochi the officer said that students find criminal acts an easy way to find money for drugs.

“Around 30,000 suicide attempts were reported in a year, one of the major reasons behind which was drugs,” he said, The Hindu.

He also pointed that drugs have become a part of students’ celebrations. The officer asked teachers and parents to be alert.
