It was revealed a few days ago that director Prasanth Varma has set the ball rolling for the sequel to his hit movie Awe. The film went on to win two National Awards - Best Special Effects and Best Make-up Artist – and was a success commercially as well.

In an interview to the Hyderabad Times, Prasanth Varma confirmed, “Yes, it is officially in the works. I’m ready with the script. We intend to take the Awe franchise forward with the sequel.”

"Awe 2 is going to be completely different. The screenplay and storyline will be heavy and intriguing. Unlike part one, which had multiple stories running parallelly, this film will have just one story,” Prasanth said, adding, “But rest assured, this film will be a crazy experiment; something that has never been explored in Tollywood before. But rest assured, this film will be a crazy experiment.”

On the main lead, Prasanth Varma said that he has discussed the project with Kajal Agarwal, who played the lead role in Awe and she is impressed with the storyline. The actor is expected to sign the project after working out the dates, we hear.

Further, talks are on with Vijay Sethupathi to play an important role in the film. He is also expected to confirm his dates soon. Prashanth Varma revealed that the sequel will be released in multiple languages.

Awe, released in 2018, was a psychological thriller directed by Prasanth Varma and produced by Nani and Prashanti Tipirneni. It had Kajal Aggarwal playing the main lead with Nithya Menen, Regina Cassandra, Eesha Rebba, Srinivas Avasarala, Priyadarshi Pullikonda and Murali Sharma in supporting roles. The film dealt with issues like child abuse, sexual abuse, drug abuse, and homosexuality.
