One of the biggest hits in recent times in Tamil cinema was Jayam Ravi-starrer Thani Oruvan, which was critically acclaimed too. The film, about the battle of wits between a righteous police officer and a suave, conniving entrepreneur, was directed by Ravi’s brother Mohan Raja, and on the third anniversary of the film, Raja announced that his next film will be Thani Oruvan 2 with his brother.

On a video posted on his Twitter page on Tuesday, Raja announced that Thani Oruvan 2 will mark yet another reunion with his brother.

Not long ago, Raja had said in a Twitter chat with his fans that Thani Oruvan 2 will be Jayam Ravi's 25th film. While both Ravi and his brother are currently occupied with their respective projects, the duo is set to team up for the sixth time next year.

Interestingly, all the previous collaborations which include films such as Jayam, M Kumaran S/O Mahalakshmi and Santhosh Subramaniam among others have been successful ventures. The cast and crew for Thani Oruvan 2 is yet to be finalized; however, the grapevine is that Nayanthara might also be part of the cast. Arvind Swami played the baddie in the first part.

Following the phenomenal success of Thani Oruvan, it was remade in Telugu, with Ram Charan in the titular role. Arvind Swami, who made a smashing comeback as the antagonist in the original, was roped in to reprise the same role in the remake. The film was also remade in Bengali but unfortunately turned out to be a dud. Jayam Ravi, meanwhile, is awaiting the release of Adangu Maru and a yet-untitled project with filmmaker Ahmed.
