The Mohanlal starrer is a thriller drama which will have some VFX effects.

Dileesh Pothan keeps popping up on the big screen, playing the odd character. A friend here, a priest there. It is a wonder he gets time to make such beautiful movies as Maheshinte Prathikaram and Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum.

He is now playing a character in the Mohanlal starrer Neerali. “A brilliant director and a wonderful actor. Very much delighted to have Dileesh Pothan in Neerali as Rajan," actor-director Soubin Shahir writes on Facebook, about his contemporary, posting Pothan's look in the film.

Neerali marks the directorial debut of editor Ajoy Varma in the Malayalam film industry. According to Ajoy Varma, Neerali is a thriller drama with some VFX effects included besides live shots. Impressed by the story line, Mohanlal has reportedly allotted call sheet for the project taking a short break from the shooting of Odiyan.

It is heard Mohanlal plays a gemologist in the film and Nadhiya Moidu his wife. The two are reuniting for the film after a gap of 34 years, after the ever-popular Nokkatha Doorathu Kannum Nattu.

Neerali's cast also includes Parvatii Nair, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Saikumar, Nassar, Megha Mathew, Bineesh Kodiyeri and Santhosh T. Kuruvilla.

Santhosh T. Kuruvilla, John Thomas and Mibu Jose Nettikadan have bankrolled the film under the banner Moon Shot Entertainments, and it has been made on a budget of Rs 11 crore. Neerali, a thriller drama, has been shot extensively in Mumbai and Pune as the story is set there.

The film is expected to release on July 12.

After Neerali, Mohanlal has Odiyan, and also Kayamkulam Kochunni, a Nivin Pauly starrer, in which he plays an extended cameo.
