Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) Chief Kamal Haasan met Sonia Gandhi, the Chairperson of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) at her residence in New Delhi on Thursday.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, the actor-turned-politician said, “It was a courtesy meeting. We discussed the state of Tamil Nadu politics. I did not discuss 2019 poll alliance.”

He also said that he would meet Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswami and request him to appoint representatives to the Cauvery Water Management Authority from the state.

Kamal is in New Delhi to meet the Deputy Election Commissioner, Chandra Bhushan to officially register his party, Makkal Needhi Maiam, which was launched in February.

On Wednesday, he said that all the queries that the Election Commission (EC) put forth were answered and that the EC would grant recognition to his party very soon.

He had also met Congress party President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday.

Kamal Haasan replied to this tweet by Rahul Gandhi.

Kamal had met both Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi on the sidelines of HD Kumaraswamy’s swearing-in ceremony in Bengaluru last month.

Since his entry into politics, Kamal Haasan had met various leaders from across the spectrum including Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and most recently Karnataka CM Kumaraswamy.

Kamal Haasan has been actively voicing his opinions on issues concerning Tamil Nadu like Sterlite and Cauvery.

Meanwhile, the actor-politician is also back on television with Bigg Boss 2 in Tamil. His movie Viswaroopam 2 is lined up for release in August.
