The Thrissur Vigilance Court has ordered a probe into the alleged land encroachment by actor Dileep for building D cinemas, a multiplex under his ownership at Chalakduy in Thrissur.

Dileep is currently in judicial custody for allegedly being the mastermind in the Malayalam actor abduction and assault case.

On Saturday, the court directed the probe and to submit the survey report before September 13.

The direction for the probe came after a public interest litigation alleging that the actor had indulged in land encroachment to build the theatre multiplex.

On Thursday, revenue officials had conducted a survey on the land under contention. A team of ten revenue officials, led by Chalakudy Tahsildar PS Madhussodhanan carried out the survey.

However, the officials gave a clean chit to the actor, stating that no encroachment had been committed. The allegation against Dileep was that he had encroached on poramboke land along the Periyar river at Kunnukara panchayat in Karumallor district.

The survey was conducted following a letter received from Karumalloor gram panchayat president GD Shiju.

It is expected that the detailed survey report will be submitted to the district collector on Tuesday.

On July 20, the Lokayukta had served notice to 12 people including the actor in this regard.

The allegations of land encroachment for building the multiplex have been doing the rounds for a while. They came to the surface again after the the details about the report submitted by the Land Revenue Commissioner came to light recently. In this report, the Land Revenue Commissioner has said that there were lapses on the part of the district administration in allotting the land. A detailed enquiry had also been directed.

After this, minister VS Sunil Kumar had said that the government will reclaim the land if the allegations are proved to be right.

In a complaint filed by Thrissur native Santhoh, it was alleged that it was the land allocated to Chalakudy Sreedharamangalam Sreekrishna temple for building the Oottupura (dining hall) that Dileep had taken to build D Cinemas.

MS Jaya, District Collector, Thrissur, had submitted a report favouring Dileep on the complaint. The complainant had later approached the High Court and the HC had directed the Land Revenue Commissioner to submit his report.

Dileep was arrested on July 10 in connection with the Malayalam actor abduction and assault case. The actor was denied bail by the lower court and High Court.
