The National Award-winning actor Dhanush is one of the few actors who chips in to help the needy without publicising it. His latest act of benevolence was evident when he decided to donate Rs. 50,000 to the families of 125 farmers that have committed suicide. The decision to help the farmers was taken after director Subramania Siva screened the documentary Kolai Vilayum Nilam, which was directed by popular journalist Rajiv Gandhi.
Earlier, the director had screened the documentary, which is about the plight of the famers in the Thanjavur and Cauvery delta region, for Vijay Sethupathi and Subramania Siva.
Impressed by the work and saddened by the plight of the farmers, Subramania Siva wanted Dhanush to see the documentary. On seeing it, Dhanush agreed to help the farmers’ families with cash assistance. He had recently met the family members and handed over the cash personally.
The documentary’s director Rajiv Gandhi revealed through his Facebook page that Dhanush had handed over the cash in person to each of the victim’s families. It may be mentioned that director Subramania Siva and Dhanush share a good rapport right from the Thiruda Thirudi days. The film was one of the biggest hits in Dhanush’s career.
While this benevolent act has not gone unnoticed, the star’s fans are waiting eagerly for the release of his film VIP 2, which is slated for release on August 11. The film has been directed by his sister-in-law Soundarya and produced by Kalaipuli S Dhanu’s V Creations in association with Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films. VIP 2 stars Dhanush playing the lead with Amala Paul and Kajol Devgn in pivotal roles.
