Dhanush fans now have a reason to celebrate, as the first look of Maari 2 was released on Friday. The filmmakers said that the film will release in December.

Taking to Twitter, director Balaji Mohan said, “The Naughtiest Don of our times is back.”

Dhanush also wrote, “The naughtiest don is back”.

The poster struck a chord with the masses, who loved Maari. The vibrant poster shows the typical character of Maari, with Dhanush, clad in a veshti and a vibrant shirt, sporting a twirled moustache and sunglasses, flicking a cracker. Dhanush is currently basking the success of Vada Chennai. Maari 2 is his second release this year.

The cinematographer for the film is Om Prakash, production design is by Amaran and editing by Prasanna GK. Balaji Mohan has both written and directed the film. Maari 2 is being produced by Dhanush’s production Wunderbar Films. Yuvan Shankar Raja is the film’s music composer. It marks the reunion of Dhanush and Yuvan Shankar Raja after a hiatus of nearly a decade.

Maari 2 is the sequel to the 2015 hit-flick Maari, starring Dhanush and Kajal Agarwal. Maari was a gangster film where Maari (Dhanush) plays a local ruffian who troubles everyone in his locality. The film created its own cult with the attire and the look of Dhanush and the film’s popular catchphrase ‘Senjiruven.’

The sequel will have new actors Sai Pallavi, Tovino Thomas, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and Krishna. Robo Shankar and Kalloori Vinoth, sidekicks in the original movie, will also be in the sequel, according to the film’s crew.

Maari was Balaji Mohan’s first gangster film after his Vaaya Moodi Pesavum, which failed at the box-office. The film was made under Wunderbar Films — Dhanush’s production house. The major change in the sequel is that the director has replaced Anirudh Ravichander with Yuvan Shankar Raja.
