The News Minute | November 28, 2014 | 8.30 am IST About 200 students from Ernakulam Law College have sent post cards to the Mahatma Gandhi University Vice Chancellor seeking maternity leave for students in graduate courses. According to the University rules, leave taken for delivery by under graduate students will be marked as absent, which in turn does not allow them to write exams because of attendance shortage, as the required attendance is 75%. Every year, around five graduate students at the law college lose a year as they are not allowed to appear for exams for failing to secure 75% attendance, says a Times of India report Students of the college reportedly demanded necessary steps from the University to avoid this situation through the post card campaign. "Not all students are going to avail maternity leave. Conceiving and giving birth to a child is a normal process when a woman gets married," said Hasna K H, a final year law student told Times of India Maternity leave facility is available for post graduate students in the universities.
