The incident took place when they were on the Murasoli Maran flyover, a stray line of manja cut Ajay’s neck which led to heavy bleeding and death later.
The child’s mother Nirosha told The Times of India, “I can't believe that my son died like that. I saw Ajay get entangled in a line of thread. My husband stopped the motorcycle and Ajay swooned and fell back on him. “
Moreover, there was a tussle between Otteri and Sembium police station in whose jurisdiction the boy lost his life. Because of which, Nirosha was taken to the spot twice. Till it was finally decided it was under the Sembium police station.
The child was taken to the Kilpauk Medical College but was declared dead by the doctors on arrival.
There have been several instances in the past of the killer-manja taking lives, but in spite of the police cracking down on the use of manja, it continues to be used for kite flying.
