Swati, the wife of Madhukar Reddy Gudur, the techie from Telangana who allegedly committed suicide in the US last week, attempted to kill herself on Friday morning. This comes three days after her in-laws attacked her at Madhukar’s funeral.
Police say, Swati consumed toilet disinfectant at 5am on Friday at her parents' home at Saroornagar in Hyderabad.
“No case has been registered yet. We will proceed with the case only after recording her statement,” Inspector Guru Raghavendra told TNM.
Swati was found unconscious in the bathroom by her parents and was rushed to Omni hospital at Kothapet.
The inspector added, “We are not sure about the reason behind her move. But her parents are saying a family dispute could be the reason for her extreme step. We can confirm after recording her statement.”
On Wednesday, she had told news reporters that her husband was suffering from depression and was prone to mood swings.
“He would be normal at one moment; then he would turn violent and assault me. But he would immediately apologise and say that he loved me. He was on medication,” Swati said.
37-year-old Madhukar was found hanging from a fan in his house in Seattle on April 4. Madhukar and Swati, who got married seven years ago, were software professions in the US. The couple had recently moved into their new home with their four-year-old daughter.
Madhukar had sent an email to his parents, requesting them to forgive him before he allegedly killed himself.
Swati and her family were attacked on Tuesday at Madhukar’s funeral in his hometown of Bhongir. His family blamed Swati for their son’s death. They have demanded that the US and Telangana police probe Swati’s role in his death.
