Darshan's ‘Kurukshetra’ to clash with Sudeep's ‘Phailwaan’ at the box office

Both the films are scheduled to release on August 9.

After being in the post-production for months, the makers of Kurukshetra have announced that the film will be hitting the marquee on August 9 to coincide with the Vara Mahalakshmi Vratam. The film’s release was postponed on several occasions due to the delay in post-production but this time it will surely hit the marquee on August 9, say sources.

Darshan’s fans are waiting eagerly for the release of Kurukshetra, a magnum opus based on the epic Mahabharata. The 2D version of this film has been censored already and the work is in progress for the 3D version. Made on a budget of Rs. 150 crore, Kurukshetra is bankrolled by Muniratna under his banner KCN Movies. The film has a bevy of stars in the cast including Darshan, Ambareesh, V. Ravichandran, Arjun Sarja, Bharathi Vishnuvardhan, Sneha, Meghana Raj, P. Ravi Shankar, Sonu Sood, Nikhil Gowda, Aditi Arya and Shashi Kumar. Kurukshetra, which is directed by Naganna, was initially planned as Darshan’s 50th film; but it was delayed for various reasons. The film’s technical crew includes V Harikrishna for music, Jayanan Vincent for camera work and Jo Ni Harsha for editing. Being a high-budget film and a historical, plans are on to release it in various languages including Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil.

And the Sudeep-starrer Phailwaan is also gearing up for release on the same date. Produced and directed by S Krishna, this film marks their collaboration for the second time after the massive success of Hebbuli. Incidentally, S Krishna will be making his debut as a producer with Phailwan by making it under his banner RRR Productions.

Sudeep plays a boxer and wrestler in this flick and being his first ever sports drama, he has undergone a lot of training to learn the nuances of martial arts. Arjun Janya has been roped in to compose the tunes for Phailwan, while Karunakar will be cranking the camera.
