Vetrimaaran-Dhanush’s Asuran that released this October 4 entered the Rs 100 crore club in less than two weeks since its release, becoming Dhaush’s first film to do so. Based on the novel Vekkai by acclaimed Tamil writer Poomani, the film has gained good appreciation from both critics and audiences alike.

Now the latest to express his appreciation for this film is DMK leader MK Stalin. Having recently watched the film in the theatre, Stalin took to Twitter to write: “Asuran is not just a film, but a lesson. With the Panchami land rights restoration in focus, it daringly questions caste violence that plagues this caste-based society. My congratulations to Vetrimaaran who has won in terms of story-screenplay-dialogues and my appreciation to Dhanush who has lived the role.”

Stalin posted this along with a photo of himself at the movie theatre, accompanied by a few DMK functionaries.

Asuran tells the story of Sivasamy, a Dalit man who lives with his family on a small piece of land they own. The film begins with Sivasamy and his younger son Chidambaram going into hiding in the middle of the night.

The film then proceeds to tell us the story of the oppression and violence they have faced at the hands of a powerful family from a dominant caste, Sivasamy’s past demons and the ones hounding their present. The film’s tight screenplay with Dhanush’s brilliant acting rendered it a must-watch film.

The film also starred Manju Warrier, Ken Karunas, Pasupathy, Teejay Arunasalam and Aadukalam Naren in important roles. The film’s music was composed by GV Prakash Kumar while Velraj handled cinematography. Asuran was produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu.

Dhanush is currently filming Pattas with Durai Senthil Kumar. This film also stars Sneha and Mehreen Pirzada and will see Dhanush in a dual role. Vetrimaaran on the other hand has just joined hands with producer Elred Kumar for his next.
