Sometimes, it might be easier to explain the Big Bang than trying to comprehend the workings of celebrity fans on Twitter. To a seemingly very generic question – ‘What’s happening Twitter?’ posed by South African cricketer Dale Steyn, ‘Thala’ Ajith fans flooded his tweet with links to the star’s ‘Adchithooku’ song, which was released two days ago, from his upcoming film, Viswasam.

However, the reasoning behind this reaction cannot be explained with much clarity at this moment. Interestingly, Dale has never played for Indian Premier League’s Chennai Super Kings, which might have helped put this reaction in perspective. Ajith fans were sharing links of their star’s upcoming song to a South African cricketer who has probably never heard of ‘Kollywood’.

A few fans even wrote that Twitter “was under the control of Thala fans”.

Fans were even unmindful of fellow cricketer Iain O’ Brien’s tweet to Dale.

Actor Vadivelu too made an appearance in the tweets.

The fans also congratulated each other for promoting Thala song. “That’s the spirit of Thala blood keep going man,” one wrote.

Well, a few did empathise with Dale…

While some others requested him to wait.

Perhaps it was just sheer bad luck in timing, since the internet was being taken over by “Thala Storm”, but Dale’s tweet received 1.4K comments in total!

In 2016, Dale Steyn was part of Gujarat Lions, before which he played for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Dale is widely regarded as one of the greatest fast bowlers of his generation and in his prime was consistently bowling over 150 km/h. He has played 82 Test matches for South Africa and has taken 421 wickets during that time, which leaves him in the eleventh spot for most wickets taken in Test cricket history. Dale has also taken 192 wickets in 121 ODIs for his country.
