Co-founder of Infosys, NR Narayana Murthy was all praise for Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an exclusive interview with Chandra R Srikanth for ET NOW. Stating that the Modi government has been working hard to reduce corruption at the central level, the Infosys co-founder also said that the continuity of the present government would be a good thing for India.

“I rarely hear a complaint of corruption at the central government level. On Rafale deal, I don't know what the truth is unless there is data," Narayana Murthy was quoted to have said by Economic Times.

Murthy stated that he feels that Prime Minister Modi has led a “strong economic progress minded government,” when he was asked whether reforms such as GST lacked proper execution and implementation. Narayana Murthy went on to say that the PM cannot be held responsible for the execution and that it’s the bureaucracy that has to do it. “The problem is with the Indian mindset and psyche, we are apathetic and indisciplined. We urgently need a cultural transformation before we can achieve an economic transformation,” he further added.

Speaking about the clash between the government and institutions like the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Murthy emphasised that institutions must remain strong and not weak. He also said that he does not focus on issues like the government ignoring real development as it focuses on building statues and temples.

Murthy stated that the people of the country must be grateful that there is a national leader like Modi who is interested in improving India. “Looking at last five years, I feel that having a leader who is focussed on the nation, focussed on discipline, cleanliness, economic progress is a good thing. Continuity of govt would be a good thing."
