CMC Vellore monkey killing: Accused seeks permission to appear in final exams

The Madras High Court on Thursday directed one of the four medical students, allegedly involved in killing a monkey on the premises of Christian Medical College, to give a representation to his university for appearing in the final examination.

Arun Louis Sasikumar, one of the accused in the case had filed a petition seeking a direction to the university to allow him to write his final year examination, which is scheduled to start on February 1, 2017.  The judge ordered, “At this stage, this court would only direct the petitioner to approach the University by way of a representation seeking for permission to write the examination.”

Moreover, the judge added that the university will consider the same independently as to whether the student, who was involved in a crime should be permitted to write the examination.

Arun had stated in his petition that January 12, 2017 is the last date to pay the examination fee along with fine and the date of examination is February 1, 2017.

A young female monkey’s corpse was exhumed from the premises of Christian Medical College in Vellore on November 22, 2016 by animal rights activists.

The monkey was allegedly brutally killed by four medical students from the college on November 19, 2016.

A case under IPC section 429 and various sections of Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 was registered against Jasper Samuel Sahoo, Rohit Kumar Yenukotti, Arun Louis Sasikumar and Alex Chekalayil at Bagayam police station. The college also suspended them after a preliminary inquiry into the matter.
