Admitting his government’s preferential treatment to the AHINDA (Kannada acronym for minorities, backward classes and Dalits) communities, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said it was to ensure social security to them. The Hindu quoted Siddaramaiah as saying “Preferential treatment is given to AHINDA to ensure social justice to the poor by focusing more on social welfare schemes.” Dismissing allegations of protecting only the interests of the AHINDA communities he said it is the State government’s responsibility to protect the interests of the disadvantaged from the minority communities and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. He was speaking at ‘Meet the Press’, a press meet organised by the Press Club and Reporters’ Guild of Bengaluru to commemorate Congress Government’s two years in office.
