A class XI student from Chennai took to suicide at his residence on Friday after he was allegedly harassed by his teachers. He was rebuked by the staff at his school in Konungaiyur on Thursday night, reports ToI.

A suicide note that police recovered from the boy had blamed two teachers for his decision to take his life. The letter written by 17-year-old Shakthivel said he was depressed about his teachers and that this had led to his poor performance at school.

"He had been upset for the last four days and did not mingle with his friends," said Shankar, one of his friends to ToI .

Following his suicide, a group of 50 students staged a protest in front of the school demanding action against the teachers on Friday morning.

Shaktivel's father is a daily wage labourer while his mother is a homemaker. A case has been registered with the Kodangaiyur police who are probing the case.

Only last month, a 17-year-old school student in Tamil Nadu's Erode District allegedly hanged herself, as she was upset after a teacher scolded her for poor performance. The girl's parents and locals held a protest demanding the teacher's arrest.

She was a student of the Government Higher Secondary School in Thandaampalayam. Investigators said she had skipped classes for five days last week after her Zoology teacher, Ms Eswari, scolded her for her poor performance.
