A 32-year-old CISF jawan, Suresh Gaikwad, shot himself in the head with his service rifle at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru on Monday.

The incident occurred at 9.00 am near KIAL walk tower 7, located near gate number 2.

“The walk towers are small ones and only one jawan is deployed in each of them. He was on patrol duty at one of the towers when the incident occurred,” Inspector Raju, attached with the Bengaluru International Airport Police Station, told The News Minute.

The deceased jawan was from Maharashtra, and was serving in the CISF’s D company, the Inspector said.

Police said that Gaikwad may have ended his life due to troubles in his personal life.

“We have received information that he was depressed because of his divorce. We do not know if he was already divorced or if the proceedings were underway. We are trying to contact his family members to obtain more details and verify this claim,” Inspector Raju added.

Just five days ago, another CISF personnel in Bihar’s Aurangabad district had opened fire on his colleagues and killed four of them at the Navinagar Power Generating Company. According to the police, the CISF personnel was angry over issues related to his leave, and had fired on his colleagues using his service weapon.
