The Central Information Commission (CIC) asked the Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) on Tuesday to allow access to class 10 and 12 school records of Union Minister of Textiles Smriti Zubin Irani.

The CIC rejected the argument made by CBSE that the same was ‘personal information that could not be disclosed’. It directed both the Minister’s office and school (Holy Child Auxilium School in Delhi) to provide the roll or reference number to CBSE Ajmer, which maintains the records (which are yet to be digitalized) for the academic years 1991-93.

In his order, the Information Commissioner Sridhar Acharyulu said that the appellant should be provided certified copies of relevant documents free of cost, barring the personal details included in the admit card/mark-sheet, within 60 days.

Acharyulu was earlier divested of the charge of the HRD Ministry, barely a few days after he ordered inspection of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 1978 degree records from Delhi University.
