One of the most popular Malayalam movies of all time, Chithram, released in 1988, will soon be getting a sequel, suggest some reports. While Chithram was helmed by Priyadarshan, the sequel will reportedly be directed by actor-singer-filmmaker Vineeth Sreenivsan. Incidentally, Chithram had Mohanlal playing the lead role and the sequel will apparently have his son Pranav Mohanlal playing the lead role. Kalyani Priyadarshan will reportedly play the female lead in this entertainer.

Chithram, released in 1988, was written and directed by Priyadarshan and produced by PKR Pillai under his banner Shirdi Sai Creations. It had Mohanlal, Ranjini, Nedumudi Venu, Poornam Vishwanathan, Sreenivasan, MG Soman, Sukumari, Lissy, Maniyanpilla Raju, and Shanavas in the cast and Thikkurissy Sukumaran Nair made a cameo appearance. The songs were composed by Kannur Rajan and music was composed by Johnson. Mohanlal won the Kerala State Film Award - Special Jury Award for his performance in this film.

While the sequel to Chithram is taking shape, Pranav’s next film release will be Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham in which he plays a guest role. The film has his father Mohanlal as the main lead. The film is based on the true-life of Kunjali Marakkar IV, who is the most popular of the Marakkars. It will have extensive sea warfare sequences which will be its highlight.

Vineeth Sreenivasan’s last release was Manoharam, in which he played the lead role. The film, which is directed by Anwar Saddiq, is bankrolled by Jos Chakkalakal under the banner Chakkalakal Films. Vineeth played a struggling artist in the film, trying his best to set up a printing unit in his town, while falling in love with his teacher at the computer centre, played by Aparna Das.

Vineeth also played a role in his brother Dhyan Sreenivasan’s directorial debut Love Action Drama, in which Nivin Pauly and Nayanthara played the lead pair.
