Tollywood megastar Chiranjeevi who is gearing up for the release of highly anticipated Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy has officially bought the remake rights of Prithviraj Sukumaran's Malayalam directorial Lucifer starring superstar Mohanlal in the lead. The film was written by Murali Gopy and has Mohanlal playing a politician named Stephen Nedumballi.

Prithviraj posted on his Twitter page“With #Chiranjeevi sir at the Kerala launch of #SyeraNarasimhaReddy What an absolute gem of a man! Humility and grace personified. I’m thrilled that you bought the rights to #Lucifer and will forever be sorry that I couldn’t take up your offer to be part of #SNR sir!”

Set against the backdrop of a family crisis during a volatile political situation in Kerala, the film was released earlier this year and had become the biggest ever earner of Malayalam cinema globally. It went on to collect a whopping Rs 200 crore worldwide.

Recently, the makers even announced the sequel of the film which has been titled Empuraan. The sequel is expected to go on the floors in the second half of 2020. It was disclosed by Prithviraj recently that he is planning Lucifer as a trilogy, which means there will be a third part for it. Murali Gopy, who has penned Lucifer, will be in charge of Empuraan and the third part as well.

Lucifer had Mohanlal, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith, and the Bollywood star Vivek Oberoi in pivotal roles. The technical crew of the film comprised Sujith Vasudevan for cinematography and Samjith for editing, while Stephen Devassy was in charge of the music composition. Mohanlal played a politician in the film, which was produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner Aashirvad Cinemas.

Meanwhile, Chiranjeevi's magnum opus Sye Raa is being bankrolled by Chiru’s son and actor Ram Charan Teja under his home banner Konidela Production Company on a budget of Rs. 200 crore. The film has Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi in the title role with Tammanah playing the female lead. It also has a bevy of stars from different film industries including Amitabh Bachchan who will be seen making a guest appearance as Gosayi Venkanna. The film is all set to hit the screens on October 2 and will be releasing in multiple languages.
