The News Minute | May 28, 2014| 4.25 pm ISTHe chose to not contest from Sivagangai and looking at the drubbing his son received from the constituency, it looks like former Finance Minister P Chidambaram took the right decision. But it now looks like the Congress is all set to try the Rajya Sabha route for P Chidambaram re-entry into the Parliament. With Karnataka set to elect people for four Rajya Sabha seats in June, the Congress High Command has asked Karnataka Congress to accommodate P Chidambaram. But sources in the state Congress say they are not keen to include Chidambaram in the list as it would be a source of embarrassment for the party considering Chidambaram's pro-Tamil Nadu stand in the Cauvery issue. It is not just Karnataka, but even Chidambaram himself is not too pleased with the idea but does not have too many options in hand, sources close to him say. The political resistance aside, now even the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) has objected to the plan to include Chidambaram in the Karnataka list. Mr R Shivakumar President FKCCI has expressed the concern of trade and industry of Karnataka that P Chidambaram should not be elected to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka. He says “ We do not want a non-committal and non-performing candidate to enter Rajya Sabha from Karnataka.”FKCCI says the reason to object Chidambaram is quite obvious as he had never helped develop the Industries in Karnataka and turned a blind eye towards them, in spite of the several recommendations and several representations made to him. With the resistance from Karnataka growing, The News Minute is learning the P Chidambaram and the Congress is also looking at Rajya Sabha seats getting vacant from North East region.
