A day after the burnt body of a middle-aged man, Mohammed Sultan was found in his Chennai house, the police have arrested his domestic worker. According to reports, she told the police that Sultan had allegedly been sexually harassing her for a few months.  

Sultan hailed from Panruti in Cuddalore district and ran a mobile accessories shop in Ritchie Street. He stayed alone in his house in MKN Nagar, Alandur. 

The murder came to light when Sultan's neighbours in MKN Nagar, Alandur noticed heavy smoke billowing from his house on Wednesday afternoon. They alerted the fire service personnel. After the fire was put out, police recovered the charred body of Mohammed Sultan. He was reportedly gagged and assaulted before being set on fire. 

The owner of the house had then registered a complaint with the St Thomas Mount police.

According to reports, police arrested the domestic worker and her boyfriend Imam. The police also said that the accused confessed to have committed the act as revenge since Sultan had allegedly forced her to have sex with him and had recorded the act on his mobile phone. She also told the police that Sultan allegedly sent some intimate photographs to Imam and to a few of her relatives. 

The police also said that Sultan allegedly began threatening her when she told him of her engagement to Imam. 

On Wednesday, the woman and Imam had gone to Sultan's house and were allegedly attacked by him with a knife. They retaliated and attacked Sultan and Imam allegedly slit Sultan's throat, tied his hands and legs with wire and left the house. Later that day, Imam came back alone and allegedly set Sultan's body on fire. 

The two accused have been remanded to judicial custody.
