A WhatsApp message on Friday, which claimed that 20 bodies had been recovered from the basement of DLF Cybercity complex in Manapakkam, has turned out to be false.

A police team visited the site and found several cars floating but did not find any bodies. “We found nothing as claimed in the message,“ a police officer said.

More than 500 MNCs are present in the complex, which has a parking capacity for 5000 cars.

DLF spokesperson Ravi Gokulanathan said, “We believe the employees were trying to attract media attention in an effort to expedite the rescue of their vehicles that were submerged a week ago. We have been working tirelessly with 60 pumps to bail out water from basement parking lots. We have recovered more than 600 cars so far.”

He added that water will be drained out from the complex within 5 days.

After officials released surplus water from the Chembarambakkam reservoir into the Adyar river, the water breached the river and flooded the complex.

The 10 buildings in the complex, house more than 6,500 employees.

“Those who have lost their vehicles will be compensated by their insurance companies,“ Ravi said.
