'Celebrating Andhrapreneurship', Vijayawada to host mega start-up event

The third edition of the StartAP Fest will kick off on February 18 at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram, Vijayawada.

Andhra Pradesh’s greenfield capital Amaravati will see a swarm of investors and aspiring entrepreneurs descending on the region this month, as the state plans to host the StartAP Fest.

This would be the third edition of the start-up event, following editions in Vijayawada in 2014 and Visakhapatnam in 2016.

Scheduled for February 18 and 19 in Tummalapalli Kalakshetram, Vijayawada, StartAP will see thousands of entrepreneurs meet and discuss ideas, along with several important speakers.

“StartAP Fest is often known as the ‘Sunrise event for Startups’. Previously in our fest we have worked to recognise, create and nurture 6000+ ideas, rendering 450+ startups, by helping young minds to interact with over 150+ angel investors and VCs,” the organisers said in a press release.

While the event is organised by a team of entrepreneurs, freelancers and volunteers, the Andhra Pradesh government actively supports the fest.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had inaugurated the fest in 2016.

Taking to Facebook about the upcoming event, Naidu wrote, “Last year I inaugurated StartAP Fest in Vizag and gave a call to the state to develop innovative and entrepreneurial solutions for the problems around us. I am happy to know that StartAP has been activating the ecosystem through various initiatives and invite more such enablers in the state to realise the dream of "One Entrepreneur from every home of AP.”

The Chief Minister also went on to wish innovators from the recent 'Mad About Ideas Campaign' by the 'AP Innovation Society' to have "a great conference experience".

The campaign that Naidu referred to was a challenge, designed to be an “Innovation Accelerator”, that encouraged participants to develop original, innovative proposals on pressing social, environmental and technological issues.

“The ideathon in AP was conducted for three months and seminars were held in most of the colleges in the state.  All the entries were analysed. The campaign received 2500+ ideas in which the 200 top ideas were selected and invited to attend StartAP Fest, Amaravati 2017,” the press release by the organisers added.

Naidu is also expected to personally felicitate the top 10 entries of  the campaign, while a special workshop is being facilitated on February 17 for the top 200 ideas that were selected.

The event also provides a platform for startups to pitch their ideas, with the best pitch winning a prize of Rs 1 lakh.

The top 15 startups will receive a 100% scholarship for a three-month incubation program by StartAP.

The speakers at the event will include, State IT Minister Dr Palle Raghunatha Reddy, Special Chief Secretary to the government JA Chowdary, Vijayawada Commissioner of Police Gautam Sawang, Krishnapatnam Port CEO Anil Yendluri and several other CEOs and entrepreneurs.
