CBI probe in K’taka techie missing case delayed due to translation of Kannada documents

After the Karnataka High Court ordered a CBI probe into the investigation of the disappearance of Karnataka techie Ajitabh Kumar, it has come to light that translation of over 1,000 pages of Kannada documents is delaying the probe. Ajitabh had gone missing in December after the 29-year-old techie went to meet a potential OLX buyer, who was looking to purchase his car, a silver Maruti CIAZ.

Nearly a month after the state High Court ordered the CID to hand the case, an officer passed the files to the CBI in their Chennai office. It has been reported that this was a mere ‘symbolic gesture’ as it would take a lot of time to go through over 1,000 pages of documents in Kannada and translate the same before further proceedings could take place.

According to his friends and roommates, Ajitabh was last seen active on Facebook on December 18 around 7.22 pm. According to his father, Ajitabh was to sell his car to use the money for his tuition fees for MBA at IIM Kolkata. After he went missing, the police started investigating the case and began to suspect that the buyers, whom he had allegedly gone to meet, may have been a part of a larger operation and had lured Ajitabh to Gunjur, which was his last known location.

Ajitabh’s family and friends had organised and conducted a protest in July in front of Town Hall in Bengaluru, after his disappearance, demanding the CBI to take over the investigation.

On January 2, Ashok Kumar Sinha, Ajitabh’s father, moved the Karnataka High Court and demanded that the CBI take over. He had told TNM at the time that he had lost faith in the investigating team’s ability to handle the case.
