The Malayalam mega star Mammootty recently completed the shooting of Shylock and is getting ready to move over to One, a political film that will have him playing the Chief Minister of Kerala. This film is expected to be wrapped up by early next year.
According to reports, Mammootty’s next film may be CBI 5 of the famous CBI franchise. The makers of this film are waiting for the mega star’s dates and are intending to begin the shooting early next year. The film will be penned by SN Swamy and directed by veteran K Madhu.
So far, four instalments of the CBI franchise have been made with K Madhu directing it and SN Swamy penning the script. Mammootty had played the lead character, an investigative officer, Sethurama Iyer in all the films.
SN Swamy, had reportedly said in a media interaction during a film-related event, that CBI 5 will be the last instalment of the franchise and the best of all. He said, “I’m sure it will be a great experience for the audience. It’s the result of three years of hard work. The climax of the movie will redefine the way future thrillers are made in Malayalam. It will trigger the start of a new wave.”
All the four CBI movies, Oru CBI Diary Kurippu, Jagratha, Sethurama Iyer CBI and Nerariyan CBI, had Mammootty playing the role of a CBI officer. All the four earlier films were inspired by notorious murder cases and it is expected that CBI 5 may also draw inspiration from a murder case.
Mammootty’s next release will be Mamangam, which is scheduled to hit the marquee on November 21. Mamangam, directed by noted filmmaker M Padma Kumar, has reached the final stages of post-production. It is made on a budget of Rs. 50 crore. The film is a historical based on a medieval fair for warriors and it is presumed that Unni Mukundan will be playing a warrior in it. It has four heroines, Prachi Desai, Prachi Tehlan, Malavika Menon and Abhirami V Iyer in the star cast and those playing supporting roles are Neeraj Madhav, Sunil Sukhada, Meghanathan and Sohan Seenulal.
