Director M Muthiah known for making films such as Kutti Puli, Komban and Marudhu is back with his latest film titled Devarattam starring Gautham Karthik in the lead. During the film's press meet that was held recently in Chennai, the director said that Devarattam was not based on any caste or community.

"It is a film that will focus on strong family relationships. They associate Muthiah with caste but I want them to associate my name with family relationships but somehow caste features in it. When I made Kodi Veeran, a group that generally supports me said I had shown the statue in bad light. I told them while there are those who fight for pride (perumai) there are those who fight for poverty (varumai). I have shown both. But the major problem arises when I change my usual setting and someone from that background accuses me of showing them in bad light. This is why I don't change my setting. I also believe every Tamilian is the same," he had said.

However, when producer KE Gnanavel Raja came up on stage next, he differed in his opinion about the film. The producer also jocularly remarked that the director was lying when he meant that it was not a caste-based film and added that there was nothing wrong in making such films. Gananavel Raja also pointed out that his own production Attakaththi was also one such film.

Devarattam is touted to be an action entertainer. The film has Gautham Karthik and Manjima Mohan playing the lead pair with Soori as the main comedian. Those in the supporting roles include Ramdoss, Bose Venkat, Vinodhini Vaidyanathan, Rajkiran, Jagapathi Babu, Rahul Dev, and Singampuli. The film's soundtrack is composed by Nivas K Prasanna with Sakthi Saravanan cranking the camera and A Sreekar Prasad editing it.

M Muthaiah began his career as a director in 2013 with Kutti Puli starring M Sasikumar and Lakshmi Menon as the lead pair. He then went on to direct films such as Komban, Marudu and Kodiveeran. After he is done with Devarattam, he will be foraying into the Kannada film industry with the Shiva Rajkumar starrer if things work out favorably for him.

On the other hand, recently there was news that Gautham Karthik’s other project with Studio Green has been shelved. The film, titled Theemai Than Vellum, is being directed by Santhosh Jayakumar who clarified that it is being produced by a new production house.

Incidentally, Gautham Karthik had worked with Santhosh Jayakumar in two films – Hara Hara Mahadevaki and Iruttu Arayil Murattu Kutthu and Theemai Than Vellum was supposed to be the third venture together until it was shelved.
