When 63-year old Johny Methipara, a native of Vazhakkulam in Kerala, set out to build his dream house, a part of his plan was also to realise somebody else’s dreams. Perhaps a family that couldn’t afford a roof over their heads.

On Monday, this dream was completed to satisfaction when he handed over the keys to a brand new two-bedroom house to Rosily Aneesh, a heart patient and a single mother of two.

“When I decided to build my house here in Vazhakkulam, I had made up my mind to build another house for somebody deserving. On inquiring through my church, I heard about Rosily and her children. So I set out to gift them a house,” said Johny, an advocate practicing in Muvattupuzha.

Speaking to TNM, Johny said, “Rosily is a heart patient who has had serious attacks twice before. Having lost her husband to an accident 5 years ago, Rosily is the sole breadwinner of her family. Her son, Chris, is studying in Class 1 and daughter, Maria, is in class 7.”

Due to her heart condition, Rosily unable to earn a stable source of income. The family stayed in a rented accommodation, and depended on neighbours and good Samaritans.

“Seeing her plight, a resident of Vazhakkulam gifted three cents of land on which I built the house for her. In all, it cost about Rs 5 lakhs, including the painting and tiling work. We also had a house warming ceremony attended by locals, including parishers, panchayat members and the priest,” Johny said.

The freshly painted white house stands tall on Vadakkodu Thuruthu, 4 kms from Vazhakulam. It includes a big hall that serves as the living and dining area combined, two cosy bedrooms and a kitchen.

“I took the help of a church acquaintance to design the basic layout of the house. After this, I got the same labourers who built my residence to construct Rosily’s house. Together, we built it from scratch,” he smiled.

Now, Rosily’s family has a roof over its head and no one could be happier than Johny.

“I have a wife, two children and my mum living with me. My mother handed over the keys to Rosily. All I wanted to do was realize my dream home along somebody else’s dreams. And now that I have achieved this, I am a happy man,” Johny said.
