Brazilian legislators are up in arms over a comment one lawmaker made about not raping a woman because she was “not worth it”.
According to an AFP report published on Saturday, Congressmen Maria do Rosario Nunes had accused Opposition congressman Jair Bolsonaro of raping her.
Bolsonaro had on December 9 said in Congress: “It's been several days since you called me a rapist, and I said that I did not rape you because you weren't worth it.”
Nunes is a close ally of President Dilma Rousseff. Although his remarks raised a furore, Bolsonaro continued: “She isn't worth it, because she's ugly, she's not my type. I would never rape her.” Bolsonaro has said that he has been falsely accused of rape.
