The News Minute | March 13, 2015 | 09.00 am ISTKerala Finance Minister KM Mani has successfully entered the Kerala Assembly on his third attempt on Friday amid protests from the opposition. The Left had declared that they would not let the Finance Minister accused of taking bribes from bar owners present the budget. When he initially attempted to enter with marshals, senior MLAs belonging to the Left stood in front of him and pushed him out. Even the new speaker N Shakthan was not allowed to enter the premises. On his third attempt, at 9 am, he entered the House flanked by his MLAs. But Mani did not approach his seat to present the budget, but instead began reading out the budget using a microphone attached to his shirt. During this time, the Speaker was not in the Assembly. The Speaker who sat in his chamber gave permission to Mani to place the budget. He then read out the introduction to the budget and placed it before the Assembly. Then, one MLA approached Mani and gave him a peck on his cheek as a sign of appreciation.Though Left MLAs tried their level best to reach KM Mani and stop him from reading the budget, a thick blanket of security prevented them from doing so.Earlier ahead of the budget, the assembly witnessed chaotic scenes as opposition members threw out the Speaker’s chair along with his computer out of the dais. Two opposition MLAs fainted in the Assembly. A total of nine opposition MLAs were reportedly injured in the fracas.Meanwhile, scenes of chaos played out outside the assembly as DYFI (CPIM Labour union) and BJP Yuva Morcha cadres tried to lay siege to the assembly. There were sporadic incidents of violence and stone-pelting.(Image courtesy: Asianet)TweetFollow @thenewsminute
