A Bengaluru woman bus driver was assaulted by the driver and conductor of the bus she was travelling in. The incident occurred on June 26 in the morning.

Prema Nadabatti, who has been working as a woman BMTC bus driver in the city since 2009, was beaten in front of the passengers, reported Bangalore Mirror.

BM reported that she boarded the BMTC bus number 3177 (KA 57-F-1351, BMTC depot number 39) coming from Richmond Road.

The fight reportedly started after the driver and conductor of the bus disapproved of Prema boarding the bus at a signal and not from the designated bus stop.

The 41-year-old who works in Shantinagar’s 3rd  BMTC bus depot, was in civilian clothes when she boarded the bus at Hosmat signal. The doors of the bus were reportedly kept open.

What started as an argument led to a fist fight and the duo beat her in public.

She alighted from the bus at city market stop and went to Bowring hospital for treatment. Using the treatment record, she approached the police to file a complaint.

A complaint of assault and outraging the modesty of a woman has been lodged against the duo.

An officer said that Prema had approached the police to withdraw the complaint too.

“Since both the conductor and the driver are from the same corporation where she works, there is possible pressure on her to withdraw the case. She returned to us wanting to withdraw the case. But since the complaint had already been registered, she has been asked to take up the matter with the jurisdictional court,” he said.

Meanwhile, the accused are yet to be questioned. If found guilty, action will be taken against them as per law, the officer said.
