When four films hit the screens in one weekend, promotions become indispensable for a film’s success. The makers of Goli Soda 2 seem to know this game too well. Director SD Vijay Milton announced in a video that as part of the film’s promotions, a van called GST Vandi will go around delivering specific items required for different social causes. The van will also carry 100 biriyani packets, buttermilk, and tender coconut and distribute them to the people en route.

“In Chennai, there’s a special school that’s constructing a facility for mentally ill children. So the van will deliver sacks of cement and bricks, while also carrying food and drinks to be distributed to people in the city on the way,” says Vijay, adding that the team decided to spend their promotional budget on a social cause that will benefit the public.

“We also hope people talk about the film when they see the van plying on the city roads,” he says in the video. The van’s route will be tracked in real time on Suriyan FM. The team will also be plying the van in Coimbatore, Salem, Madurai, Trichy, Pondicherry and other places.

“In Salem we heard that there’s a facility that cares for children with AIDS which requires satthu maavu (health powder), so we’ll be delivering that next,” added the director.

This move by the film’s team has been appreciated by many on Twitter.

Goli Soda 2 will hit the screens on June 14. The film stars Samuthirakani, Chemban Vinod Jose and Rohini in important roles. The film will also see Gautham Vasudev Menon playing a supporting role.

The film’s prequel was released in 2014 and opened to positive reviews. Set against the backdrop of Chennai’s Koyembedu market, the film starred Kishore, Sree Raam, Pandi and Murugesh of Pasanga fame.

Director Vijay Milton previously worked as the cinematographer for films like Priyamudan, Autograph, Kaadhal and Vazhakku Enn 18/9. In 2015, he directed Vikram’s 10 Enradhukulla which was a box office dud.
