The Madras High Court on Thursday, indefinitely reserved its judgment on the case filed against Atlee’s Vijay starrer Bigil. Without going into the merits of the case, the judge will decide if it was right on the civil court’s part to have allowed petitioner KP Selva to withdraw his case from the lower court and approach the High Court without deciding upon the respondent’s (producer) plea to dismiss it first.

KP Selva, a member of the South Indian Film Writers’ Association, filed a plaint with the Chennai city civil court, alleging that Atlee’s Bigil is based on his story, which he had registered with the union. He sought an injunction against the filming and release of the movie.

When the case came up for hearing in August, the counsels for AGS Entertainment Private Limited (the producer of the movie) and director Atlee argued that the petitioner did not have any basis to file a plaint and sought the court to dismiss the plea.

Speaking to TNM about the issue, advocate Sharada Vivek, counsel for director Atlee, said that the court had accepted their arguments. “By the time the petitioner’s side was up to submit their arguments, his counsel backtracked and stated that they are withdrawing the plea and will move the Madras High Court in the matter. We had requested the court to not grant permission to the petitioner to move the High Court,” she said.

Bigil stars Vijay in multiple roles. While Nayanthara plays the leading lady, Jackie Shroff, Kathir, Vivek, Daniel Balaji etc are also part of the cast. The movie’s music has been composed by AR Rahman.

It was recently announced that the film received a U/A certificate from the CBFC and its total runtime is a marathon 2 hours 58 minutes and 59 seconds. Bigil’s release date has been set for October 25.
