Telecom and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday, November 15 said that Apple's biggest iPhone manufacturing unit will come up near Bengaluru. Speaking at the Janjatiya Gaurav Divas ceremony, Vaishnaw said that the unit will provide employment to 60,000 people. "The largest plant in India is being built at Hosur, which is close to Bengaluru, to produce Apple's iPhone. 60,000 people will be employed at one single factory."

Of these 60,000 workers, the first 6,000 will be tribal women from areas close to Ranchi and Hazaribagh. “Tribal sisters have been trained to make Apple iPhone,” the minister said. Tata Electronics, which has a facility in Hosur, has been contracted by Apple to manufacture iPhone enclosures.

Reuters reported last week that Foxconn, an Apple supplier, intended to increase the number of employees at its plant in south India to 70,000 and will hire 53,000 more people over the next two years. The largest Foxconn facility is located in Zhengzhou, the provincial capital of China's Henan. A total of 200,000 people are employed at Zhengzhou Park. Foxconn started making the iPhone 14 this year after opening a factory there in 2019. Three of Apple's international partners currently assemble iPhones in India: Foxconn and Pegatron in Tamil Nadu; Wistron in Karnataka.
