Director Bharathiraja, who was unanimously elected as President in the Tamil Nadu Film Directors’ Association, has now resigned from his post in less than a month. In an official letter that has been shared online, Bharathiraja has said, “I thank everyone for unanimously choosing me as the President without any competition. But I am able to feel the dilemma that comes with being elected to a post without competing. Therefore, I have resigned from my post to allow a democratic selection of the President. The future of the members will continue with my guidance and affection.”

The ace director was unanimously appointed as the Director Association’s President during the general body meeting that took place in Kamala Theatre on June 10 this year.

The date of elections for Tamil Nadu Film Directors’ Association is yet to be announced. Previously, director Vikraman served as the President of the union for four consecutive years, with elections failing to take place on time.

Meanwhile, just two weeks ago, the dust settled around Nadigar Sangam elections that took place amidst high drama on June 23. This time, the competition was between Nassar’s Pandavar Ani and director Bhagyaraj’s Sankaradas Ani.

Just after the elections, a Madras High Court judge framed charges against producer Ishari Ganesh, who contested for the post of General Secretary from Sankaradas Ani, for having tried to influence him through a mutual friend in relation to the Nadigar Sangam elections.

While the elections took place on June 23, the court has barred the counting of votes and called for ballot boxes to be kept in safe custody until further orders. The next hearing will be on July 8. The orders were passed when the Madras High Court, in a special late night hearing, stayed the previous order passed by the Registrar of Societies to indefinitely suspend the elections.
