In a unique initiative, a group of IT employees in Bengaluru have come together and built a divider near their office to ease traffic chaos without waiting for the traffic department.

The service road near Bomanahalli signal was witnessing a lot of traffic from both directions with motorists trying to avoid the main carriageway.  The resulting traffic snarls in the area were causing employees to reach late to office.

“The distance from the signal to our office, which stands adjoining the service road, is just 400 metres. But during peak-hour traffic, especially on Mondays, it used to take some 30-40 minutes for them to pave their way through the crazy traffic and reach office,“ said Satish Rao, manager, administrative facilities, emids Technologies.

With employees reaching late to office, the company decided to take it upon itself to do something about the situation without waiting for the traffic department’s intervention.

“We decided to chalk out a solution to tackle the daily mess. We came up with the idea of building a divider so that the traffic flow from both the sides could have dedicated lanes. We approached the traffic head, Vasu Reddy, from Madiwala traffic station and with the changes proposed by his team, we built the divider,“ Rao said.

The project cost came to around Rs2.3 lakh, which will be borne by the company, said Rao. The employees from the company also take turns to manage the traffic in the area.
