A Bengaluru cab driver, and his colleagues at the company he works for, were in for a shock last Friday when his car accidentally grazed the car of a young man with powerful connections. On May 8, Rajesh, son of Bengaluru-based realtor and film producer Lokesh Reddy, reportedly lost his cool after a cab car rear-ended his BMW. The accident occurred on Museum Road when Rajesh was allegedly driving his car at high speed and applied the brakes suddenly, causing the cab, an Etios to hit the BMW and cause minor damage. S Jagadeesh, the cab driver and owner of the car, reportedly apologised and told Rajesh that he could not afford to pay for the damage caused. He suggested that they go to the police station to file a case which would allow Rajesh to claim insurance. However, an enraged, Rajesh allegedly snatched the keys of the Etios and drove it into medians and barricades. Jagadeesh then called his supervisors who rushed to the spot after he informed them of the incident. What followed next stumped them all, almost literally. Rajesh allegedly asked Jagadeesh and his supervisors to sit in the car and began driving the Etios in a rash and negligent manner with the intention to cause damage. “He was frustrated that his car was damaged, but this was not the way to handle it. He began scraping my car against the median on the centre of the road and even knocking down the metal barricades, sneering at me as he damaged my car. He abused us and physically assaulted me by punching me all over my body while I was sitting next to him," Bangalore Mirror quoted Jagadeesh. From Museum Road, Rajesh drove towards Audogodi Signal, near which, fearing for their life, the three men reportedly jumped out of the vehicle while the former continued driving. Jagadeesh then went to the Cubbon Park Police Station and lodged a complaint against Rajesh who was later arrested by the police. Seven sections were slapped against him for voluntarily causing harm, endangering life or personal safety of others, wrongful restraint, rash driving, criminal intimidation among others. The same night, Rajesh was released on bail by the police. This is not the first time Rajesh has been in trouble with the law. In the early hours of June 2, 2013, Rajesh, who was inebriated, knocked down an autorickshaw while he was driving his Audi Q7 near Mayo Hall. As a result of the impact, Deepak (26) who was travelling in the auto was killed while his cousin Karthik (25) and auto driver Yunus Ali suffered grievous injuries. The police investigation revealed that Rajesh was driving above the legal speed limit. In March 2014, the Ashoknagar Police filed a charge-sheet on the hit-and-run, the trial for which is currently underway.
