Bengaluru may soon be home to a new dog park. For more than a year, several pet owners in the city have been bringing their dogs to the Domlur park, and so, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) may soon declare it as the official dog park. Created by residents in the area, the park is open 24 hours, throughout the year, making it an ideal space for pet lovers, as there are no restrictions on the time.

BBMP Special Commissioner D Randeep told The Hindu, “I have received an application of the residents to declare it as a dog park. I will put the proposal before the Commissioner (N Manjunath Prasad). We already have exclusive parks for senior citizens and children. Since the dog park already exists, it is only a matter of formalising it. We can even see if this can be replicated in other parts of the city.”

The area, which had once been a garbage dumping site, was transformed into a park by the Ugly Indians group, along with a few residents of Domlur, who had approached the local corporator, Lakshminarayan C R and sought permission for the same. The park was formerly just a vacant space between a service road and HAL Airport road, which was filled with a heap of garbage.

The corporator further added that the vast space, spread over 8,000 square feet, would soon be fenced and improved with all amenities, including a jumping track for dogs.

Animal rights activist VK Elango said, “He appreciated our initiative and pledged to help us. We have not appointed anyone to clean the park. Dog owners clear the faeces and drop it in the drop-pit. We remove dry leaves from the park once a month,” said.

It has also been noted that aggressive dogs and dogs that are yet to be fully vaccinated will not be allowed into the park as per the rules set forth by the citizens of Domlur.
