A massive search operation has been launched in Kinnaur in Himachal Pradesh to find a Bengaluru-based trekker Satyanarayan Venkatachari, who has been missing for the last one month.

“We have received reports from some villagers that he was last seen at a village near Surcho and few villages beyond that. We have also sought help from local trekkers and ITB police,” Sakshi Verma said, Superintendent of Police of Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh, speaking to The New Indian Express.

According to the report, 46-year-old Satyanarayan was set to meet up with a trekker friend, Vikram Mallik of Gurugram, in Manali on August 2. However, Vikram says he has not yet been able to establish contact with Sathya.

Satyanarayan's wife Anuradha and a family friend, Kishore Reddy, are currently in Kinnaur seeking help from local authorities. He last made a call on July 25.

A seasoned solo trekker, Satyanarayan works at US-based Texas Instruments in Bengaluru and was on a break. He was scheduled to return on August 22.

Although a dead body, which was found on Tuesday, was thought to be of the missing trekker, it has now been found to be someone else, reported NDTV. The body was found in Nichar tehsil of the district.

Several search teams, including the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Himachal Police, porters and two companions, are trying to locate Satyanarayan.

Some have even put up missing person posters across trekking routes in Kinnaur to help trace him.
