The News Minute | October 13, 2014 | 09:20 am ISTA reputed hotel in Chennnai had to cancel its beer-drinking competition on Suunday , after workers of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a student wing of the RSS opposed the idea. ‘Octofiesta – Drink Up’ was a competition hosted by Radission Blu asking all beer lovers to group in fives and drink to win the beer drinking replay competition held between 12 and 2 pm on Sunday, said The New Indian Express.When cadres of the ABVP heard about the competition, they assembled in front of the hotel ready to enter the premises if necessary,said the report. Kalyan Raman, an activist who was part of the protests against the holding of the beer-drinking event said that the hotel did not have the ‘legal sanctity to’ promote alchohol drinking. The hotel had to call off the event after talks with the police, said the report.
