The News Minute| October 10, 2014| 4.00 pm ISTThere are accusations that Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) offered money to Windies team for playing the One Day International Cricket match against India in Kochi on 8th October. Though BCCI has rejected the report, it is being reported in Kerala media that apart from the lifetime boycott threatening from ICCI, it was their 3 crores that convinced the Windies team to play. As a protest against uninformed deduction in their pay the players skipped the scheduled training session on Tuesday and skipper Dwayne Bravo did not attend the customary trophy unveiling ceremony. Bravo also left out the pre-match media conference. When the team threatened to boycott the first ODI against India, BCCI interfered and BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel talked to Windies captain Dwayne Bravo over phone. Later on Indian team captain M.S Dhoni and media manager R.N Baba had a meeting with Bravo, who then decided his team will play. After the match Sanjay Patel also had a conversation with Bravo at the hotel. It is being reported in the media that Sanjay Patel offered the money during the phone conversation with Bravo. But he denied the statement. "There is absolutely no truth to these rumours. The BCCI has not made any such payments and nor do we have any plans of indulging into any such financial transactions in principle. This is their internal matter” [1] Sanjay Patel said, reported Malayala Manorama. The Windies cricket board chairman Dev Cameron’s acknowledgement email to BCCI proves its decisive role and involvement in solving the issue. The Windies ODI boycott could have resulted in a huge loss for BCCI. This can be the reason for offering money to the players, however there are no confirmation regarding the money transaction. BCCI has warned the team not to repeat the chaos in Kochi in coming ODI’s. They have also informed that all the matches will be conducted professionally as per the fixed schedules.
