CCTV cameras have been apparently installed to keep couples in check and not embarrass families who might accidentally stumble upon them.Having grandly installed CCTV cameras in a park in Basavangudi in order to prevent couples from engaging in “anti-social” , Bangalore Mayor B S Satyanarayana now seems to be backtracking.When The News Minute contacted him on Monday, Satyanarayana denied that cameras had been installed at the park near Bull Temple to prevent public display of affection among couples.He said: “thousands of visitors come to the park. It gets crowded and lot of chain-snatching happens, anti-social elements (are there). When all this happens, regular walkers, regular park-goers lose their peace.”When asked if he did not have the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike install them to prevent couples from displaying affection publicly, he said: “Couples? No one said (anything about couples)… If they are married, its ok.. They come and go. But others (unmarried couples), they create nuisance. That is why we have put it (cameras).”He then repeated that the BBMP had installed the cameras to prevent chain-snatching. He then said that people were in favour of the cameras, and that if there was opposition, it would be removed.Why this need to threaten couples with Big Brother?
