Telangana Chief Minister on Friday has given entertainment tax (ET)  exemption to Tollywood film Gautamiputra Satakarni, featuring Nandamuri Balakrishna, as it was said to be a historical film.

Gautamiputra Satakarni is a movie which is based on the life history of Satavahana emperor.

K Chandrasekhar Rao made the announcement after Balakrishna, son of TDP founder NT Rama Rao called on him at Pragathi Bhavan in Hyderabad on Friday.

The shooting of the film was completed in 78 days and has been shot at several historical places in the country.

Balakrishna explained to KCR, that the movie was shot at an ancient sight in Kotilingala, situated on the banks of the Godavari river in Karimnagar district, which was the first capital of the Satavahana dynasty.

The movie is all set to hit the theatres on January 12.

It was reported that Balakrishna first went to the Assembly to meet the Chief Minister but KCR had left the premises by then. Following this, Balakrishna rushed to the CM's camp office and managed to meet KCR.

Balakrishna, who is a TDP MLA from Hindpur, also interacted with Telangana TDP leaders, including party working president Revanth Reddy, and  spent some time at the TDP legislature party office.

This will be the second film to get a tax exemption from Telangana after Rudhramadevi, a Telugu stereoscopic 3D historical film was granted one last year.

KCR has said that the government will support and promote historical films based on noted personalities and historical figures. Rudhramadevi was based on the story of a warrior queen from the Kakatiya Dynasty, which featured Anushka Shetty as the protagonist.
