In a record of sorts, the theatrical rights for North America of SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Conclusion, which is slated to hit the screens on April 28, 2017, have been snapped up for over USD 7 million.
As per a Forbes report, Sudhakar Reddy of Great India Films has confirmed about the deal. “We paid over $7 million as royalty for all the languages for its theatrical rights. Yes, it is a record for any Indian movie by miles."
According to reports, the rights were originally sold to K-Entertainments for a whopping Rs. 95 crore, which included the Tamil domestic market and overseas rights of the film in Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. However, the deal fell through and Great India Films stepped in and acquired the film for a record price.
The first part collected over Rs. 600 crore worldwide, including over USD 7 million in the US. The sequel, which will finally reveal why Kattappa killed Baahubali, will be released via Great India Films in North America in over 1000 screens.
