On Thursday morning, the two minor daughters of a 32-year-old woman found their mother sitting beside her dead lover, who was lying in a pool of blood.

Roopa allegedly killed her lover Raghu as he wanted to rape her 14-year-old daughter.

The Annapoorneshwari Nagar police arrested Roopa on Thursday after neighbours informed them of the incident.

According to the police, Roopa met Raghu at a garment factory six months ago.

“Both of them were employees at a garment factory. She and Raghu met six months ago. Raghu, a resident of Dasarahalli, would visit Roopa often at her home in Annapoorneshwari Nagar as her husband left frequently for his hometown Tiptur in Tumakuru district. Soon they became lovers,” the police said.

However, about a month ago, Roopa allegedly became uncomfortable with Raghu’s presence in her home. Police say that Raghu allegedly began paying attention to her 14-year-old daughter.

“Roopa has stated that the way Raghu interacted with her daughter had made both of them uncomfortable. When she realised that Raghu may be a threat to her daughter, she broke off her relationship with him,” the police said.

Upon interrogation, Roopa is said to have told the police that Raghu had been insisting that they continue their relationship. On Wednesday night, Raghu allegedly got drunk and barged into Roopa’s home.

“Roopa says that she tried to pacify him but Raghu is said to have created a ruckus and tried to force himself upon her. Raghu demanded to have sex with Roopa’s 14-year-old daughter. She did not know how to get him out of the house so she decided to mix sleeping pills with the sambar,” police said.

Roopa served him ragi mudde and sambar laced with sleeping pills. When Ragu passed out, Roopa allegedly slit his throat with a coconut grater.

At around 1.30am, Roopa’s daughters woke up to find their mother sitting next to Raghu’s body. Scared at the turn of events, the children began screaming, which woke up the neighbours.

“The neighbours rushed to Roopa’s house after they heard the children scream. They alerted the control room. Officers from our station then rushed to the spot and arrested Roopa. She said that she had decided to kill him as he was a threat to her daughter,” police added.

A case of murder has been registered at the Annapoorneshwari Nagar police station.
