Former Kerala Minister and Kozhikode South MLA MK Muneer has said that attending a Ganeshotsav celebration will not harm his deep faith.
The MLA, who inaugrated the Ganeshotsav event organised by Kozhikode unit of Shiv Sena on Monday, had drawn criticism from some Muslim League sympathisers in social media.
On a Facebook post written on Monday night, the MLA clarified that he has no affinity towards the Shiv Sena or RSS, but attended the program only because the people gathered for the event were his constituents, irrespective of political affiliation.
“It’s my father’s blood that runs in my veins. He had said not to believe the RSS ever. My faith and belief is not such that it ends in a Ganeshotsav. It is rooted deep in my heart. It cannot be broken by the Shiv Sena, the RSS or the SDPI. I will be there to safeguard secularism,” he wrote.
“The people gathered there did not belong to any political parties. They were my voters and I have certain responsibilities towards them. I am not bothered about what SDPI and RSS think. But if my party workers were hurt, I apologise to them,” he added.
Since Monday the ex-minister was being trolled harshly on social media for his participation.
